This summer is supposed to be a scorcher! With temperatures reaching new heights, more and more people are looking for ways to stay cool. This is especially important for children and the elderly as they can often find it more difficult to control their environment and are at a much higher risk for heat stroke and other heat-related issues.
If you are looking for ways to keep cool during the summer, keep reading as Macc Care is going to share some simple tips that will help you do just that!
9 Ways To Stay Cool In The Heat
Stay Hydrated- the easiest way to keep cool during extremely hot weather is to stay hydrated. Drinking a lot of water will help your body to naturally cool off.
Turn On Fans- keeping the air in your home moving will make it feel much cooler and a lot more comfortable.
Mist Yourself- keep a spray bottle full of cool water and mist yourself throughout the day to stay cool and soothe hot, itchy skin.
Cook Less- or at least bake less. Every time you cook, you increase the temperature in your home. Choose lighter meals throughout the summer including salads, wraps and other foods that require very little, or no, cooking.
Adjust Your Air Conditioning- turning down your aircon system during the hottest periods of the day will help cool down your home and remove the humidity from the air making your home more comfortable.
Stay Out Of The Sun- avoid being outside in the hot sun as much as possible, especially during the hottest times of day. Do any outdoor work in your garden area either early in the morning or later in the evening.
Turn Off The Lights- if your home still has the traditional non-LED lightbulbs, turn off any lights you are not using as traditional bulbs create heat. You can also close your blinds and curtains during the day to keep the heat of the sun out.
Wear Appropriate Clothing- dress for the season and wear clothing designed to keep you cool. Fabrics such as cotton are great at protecting you from the sun’s rays while being lightweight.
Take A Cool Shower- cool off with a cool shower and feel more comfortable instantly. A cool shower is just as effective as a hot shower and should be taken just before bed to help you sleep better.
