MACC Care unveils new £8million Erdington care home

A new £8million dementia-friendly residential and nursing facility is set to open in north Birmingham, creating 80 jobs.

MACC Care will launch the new 84-bed Abbey Rose care home in Marsh Hill, Erdington, to the public next month (March 2019).

Abbey Rose care home has been developed on the site of the former Hare and Hounds public house and has taken 15 months to complete.

MACC Care, which operates six high-quality care facilities across the Birmingham, said the new care home would replace its existing facility in nearby Orchard Road. The provider is working with families and the local authority to manage the relocation of 35 residents to the new care home.

The purpose-built facility will feature circadian tuneable lighting within each bedroom, as well as a wellness suite, hair salon, pub and cinema. It will also house a special dementia care area and specifically designed and equipped larger rooms for bariatric care provision.

The new care home is expected to create around 80 new jobs, with MACC Care recruiting for positions in care, nursing, kitchens, activity staff and domestics..

Sharon Medhurst, care home manager at MACC Care, said: “We are hugely excited about the move to the new Abbey Rose care home and the opportunity it gives us to expand our services. The new site has been thoughtfully designed to offer state of the art facilities to our residents and continues MACC Care’s tradition of excellent care delivery in a fantastic environment.

“Our investment in Erdington is not just in providing exceptional care for local people, it will also bring about jobs and training positions. We plan to offer nurse’s assistant placements and on-site training for healthcare professionals by linking with education providers. We will also provide regular professional development seminars and assessments for our employees. We believe it will be one of a kind in Birmingham.”
