5 Ways to Make Friends | The Importance of Building a Strong Network

Ways to Make Friends - Friends at a BBQ

This International Friendship Day, we’re recognising the importance of friendship by providing you with 5 different ways to make friends and create a strong network of support:

Ways to Make Friends | Reaching Out to Your Neighbours

You don’t need to go out of your way to make friends when there are so many amazing people in your local area.

Ways to Make Friends - Neighbours Meeting

It’s as easy as knocking on the door and inviting them for a cup of coffee! As you live in the same area, you already have something in common with your neighbour – so why not take the chance to reach out and talk about recent developments and events in your community?

Take Part in Local Clubs or Activities

Joining a club or getting involved in a new activity is a brilliant way to make friends and find people with the same interests as you. Clubs and activities are widely available for all ages, and can help you make friends while having fun doing something you enjoy.

In our Macc Care homes, we make sure there are plenty of different activities for our residents to take part in, providing them with a brilliant opportunity to make friends and socialise.

Ways to Make Friends | Volunteering For a Cause

If you find yourself with free time and are looking to make friends, volunteering may be an excellent option for you.

Take an interest in a cause you are passionate about and take the opportunity to meet new people. As with clubs and activities, you’ll find people that share your interest in the cause you choose, and short conversations while you’re volunteering together could lead to amazing long-term friendships!

Put Yourself Out There

It may sound simple, but in order to attract the ideal social circle, it’s important to put yourself out there. By doing things that you love with an open mind, you’ll find people with similar interests and ideologies where you least expect them.

For example, if you’re partial to a pub visit but have no one to go with, go anyway! You’ll find that people gravitate towards you when you’re having a good time, and you may find yourself chatting to the people around you.

Nurture Existing Friendships

As important as it is to make friends, maintaining the friendships you already have is key to creating a strong network. Don’t forget about the people who have been around for you in the past. If you feel that it’s been a while since you last spoke, pick up the phone or write them an email!

As time goes by, it can be difficult to maintain friendships as other plans often get in the way. Nurture your existing friendships by checking in with them, making future plans and being there for them when they need you. Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver, the other is gold.

Friendships are incredibly important for our happiness at every stage of our lives. At Macc Care, we ensure that helpful and friendly staff manage our range of care homes and have regular activities to aid in socialisation.

With us, you can rest assured that your loved one will always have a friend to turn to. For more information on what we can offer for your loved one, take a look at our website.
