Whether you celebrate Hanukkah or Christmas or any other type of holiday this season, chances are, it can be made better by having your friends and loved ones over. In fact, the holiday season is when friends and family visit the most, often travelling long distances to share in the holiday spirit and reminisce with the ones they love. No matter how busy we are, we always find time to spend with guests during the holidays because they make the season that much more special.
When you are celebrating the holidays with friends and family, don’t forget your elderly loved ones. Whether they still live at home with an in-home carer, or they are in a care home, they might not be able to travel as much as they used to. This can mean a lonely holiday season for them. Something as simple as a phone call or a visit can mean a lot, and it can cure their loneliness during the holiday. It can also brighten their mood, and make them feel more positive.
If you have elderly loved ones in a care home this holiday season, why not either invite them over for tea, or stop by and visit them? After all, the holidays are about family and friends being together and sharing in the joy of the season.
Let’s take a look at some things that you can do to help make the holidays the best time of year for your elderly loved ones:
Call- calling your elderly loved ones is one of the easiest ways that you can connect with during the holiday season or any time of year. You can ask them how their day is and if they need anything.
Take them to Lunch or dinner- inviting your elderly loved ones out to lunch or dinner can make the holidays seem merrier for everyone. Even if it is just for tea, it can still make a big difference in their day.
Visit- visiting your elderly loved ones and friends is always nice, especially if they live far away. Chances are, they don’t often get many people visiting them during the holidays because we are all so busy. Don’t forget to take time out of your busy schedule to make your family and friends a priority.
